PESHAWAR, 28 July: Like other parts of the globe, the World Hepatitis Day was observed in Pakistan on Tuesday.

The purpose behind observing this day is to create awareness among the people about preventive measures against the disease. According to Pakistan Islamic Doctors Association, every 10th child in Pakistan suffers from hepatitis.

On the other hand, the World Health Organisation (WHO) says all five types of hepatitis, i.e. A, B, C, D and E exist in Pakistan.

A senior doctor at the Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar, Dr Sher Ali told TNN that hepatitis B and C are more dangerous and can prove life threatening if not cured in time. He said the used syringes are the main cause behind the spread of hepatitis.

“There are many reasons behind spread of hepatitis. The main reasons are the use of used syringes or used blades for shaving. People should be extremely careful while on this count,” Dr Ali told TNN.
