Workers of Billion Tree Tsunami programme in DI Khan decry non-payment of salaries

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, 23 February: The workers employed for the Billion Tree Tsunami programme of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in Hap Chapak area of Dera Ismail Khan have not received their salaries for the last four months.
The workers said they are facing a lot of difficulties due to non-payment of salaries. They said the financial problems have also affected their performance and dedication towards the project.
A worker, Javed, told TNN that the workers are facing many difficulties due to non-payment of salaries.
“Officers say there is no budget for salaries and we are facing uncertain situation. The situation may force us to leave the job as we are unable to keep our body and soul together,” he said.
On the other hand, the people who have given their lands for the project are also facing uncertainty over flaws in the implementation process. They said they have given precious lands to the Forest Department, but due to lack of funds the irrigation system is not up to the mark and many trees have been wasted.
District Forest Department officer Musa Khan said funds of the department are stopped for the last four months. He said the department is making efforts for the release of funds to make the project successful.
Hap Chapak is an important part of the Billion Tree Tsunami programme under which an artificial forest will be established in the area.
