Terror bid foiled near Pak-Afghan border in Kurram Agency
PARACHINAR, 12 May: Security forces on Friday foiled a massive terror bid by detonating an explosive laden vehicle near the Pak-Afghan border in Kurram Agency, officials said.
Assistant Political Agent Shahid Ali Khan told reporters here that an explosive-laden vehicle was trying to enter Pakistan from the Paktia province of Afghanistan near Borki border on Thursday night. Levies and FC personnel suspected it as a potential threat and opened fire on the vehicle as a result, the explosives dumped in the van detonated with a bang.
The APA added that the van was to be used to target a gathering in Parachinar.
It merits recalling here that two major bomb blasts have recently taken place in Parachinar in which large number of people were died. On March 31, at least 23 people were killed in a car bomb blast near an Imambargah in the main bazaar. Earlier, on January 21, as many as 25 people were killed and 87 others injured when a bomb went off during peak business hours at the crowded vegetable market of Parachinar.
The political administration and security forces have already beefed up the security after the recent terror incidents. The Pak-Afghan border in Kurram Agency is closed for the last 26 days. All link and access roads into the tribal area were closed last month by security forces to restrict terrorists’ movements.
