South Waziristan elders condemn women tribal Jirga in Peshawar
WANA, 20 January: A tribal Jirga of South Waziristan Agency has slammed a women tribal Jirga which was organised in Peshawar few days ago.
A Jirga of Mehsud tribe elders was held at the political compound on Thursday which was headed by Haji Saeed Anwar, Maulana Asamuddin and Brigadier (Retd) Qayyum Sher. Speakers on the occasion said some so-called tribal women held a Jirga at Bacha Khan Markaz in Peshawar few days ago and damaged the tribal traditions. They said no one can become a tribal just by making a tribal domicile.
The tribal elders also condemned the resolutions of the women Jirga which was headed by the Awami National Party (ANP) leader Bushra Gohar. They said the women Jirga was wrong in its assertion that the tribal women have no access to education and other basic facilities.
The Jirga members said reforms in FATA should be implemented only after complete return and rehabilitation of the displaced people.
