PESHAWAR, 7 November: The body of Pakistan consulate official Rana Nayyer Iqbal, who was killed in firing by unknown militants in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, on Monday, was handed over to Pakistani officials at Torkham border on Tuesday.

Torkham border remained closed for some time during handing over the body on Tuesday after which it was reopened.

Rana Nayyer Iqbal was returning home after Maghrib prayer in Jalalabad when unknown armed men on a motorcycle opened fire on him, leaving him dead on the spot. Pakistan Ambassador in Afghanistan Zahid Nasrullah Khan said Rana Nayyer Iqbal had completed his three-year service in Pakistani consulate and was preparing to come back to Pakistan.

Spokesman for Nangarhar provincial government Attaullah Khogiani confirmed the incident and said a probe has been launched. No arrest has been made in the murder case so far.

Rana Nayyer Iqbal, who hailed from Sialkot district of Punjab, was performing duties in visa section of Pakistani consulate in Jalalabad.
