Pakistan Railways team visits Khyber Agency to examine railway track’s repair

BARA, 15 September: A team from Pakistan Railways visited Khyber Agency on Thursday and surveyed Peshawar-Torkham railway line.

The team led by Pakistan Railways Chairperson Parveen Agha visited Torkham border and Michini post where Assistant Political Agent Niaz Muhammad briefed them about the Customs and security related matters.

Sources said the purpose of the visit was to examine the Peshawar-Torkham railway track for repair and restoration for promoting trade activities. The sources added that notices were also issued by the Railways officials to some people who have constructed shops on the Railways property. The shopkeepers were asked through the notices to vacate the shops within a week.

The survey for restoration of railway track in Khyber Agency was launched two years ago.

    Like common people from FATA, leaders of political parties and experts are also divided on the extension of Supreme Court and High Court to tribal region.     After a long wait, the National Assembly finally passed a bill on 12 January 2018 for extending the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and Peshawar High Court (PHC) to FATA.
