Pakistan, Afghanistan set up military hotline

PESHAWAR, 31 December: The Pakistan and Afghan governments have established a hotline for contact between the militaries of the two countries.
Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Asim Bajwa said on the social media website twitter on Wednesday that the first contact on the hotline has been made between the directors general of military operations (DGMOs) of both the countries. He said the DGMOs discussed dates for the upcoming meeting of corps commanders of both the countries and enhancing coordination on both sides of the Pak-Afghan border.
Asim Bajwa said the decision of establishing the hotline was made during the visit of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif to Kabul on 27 December. Hotline is a specific telephone number which is used by representatives of different countries for contact in emergency situations.
Ties between Pakistan and Afghan suffered a setback after Kabul accused Islamabad of involvement in bomb attacks in the war-torn country. However, the ties are again moving on a positive trajectory after participation of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in Heart of Asia Conference in Pakistan on the invitation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
