Massive embezzlement committed in water supply schemes in FATA, PAC told
PESHAWAR: Irregularities of tens of millions of rupees have surfaced in the water supply schemes in FATA.
Disclosure to this effect was made at a meeting of a sub-committee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Parliament which met on Tuesday with its Convener Sardar Ashiq Hussain Gopang in the chair. The meeting scrutinised the audit paras of the FATA Secretariat budget. Officials told the meeting that massive embezzlement was committed in the water supply schemes in FATA. The committee was told that measurement and billing of some projects was finalised within a single day.
Additional Secretary FATA told the committee that action has been taken against the concerned sub-divisional officer. The committee expressed resentment over corruption and directed that the looted public money be submitted to the national exchequer.
The committee also directed the FATA Secretariat to ensure oversight of 209 schemes in FATA.
