PESHAWAR, 21 September: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced public holiday on 1 Muharram on the occasion of martyrdom day of Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA).

The provincial government has made this announcement through a notification. The meeting of Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will be held in Karachi in the evening today (Thursday) for sighting the moon of Muharram. In case the moon was sighted on Thursday then the new year of Islamic calendar (1 Muharram) will be observed tomorrow (Friday). In case the moon was not sighted, then 1 Muharram will be observed on Saturday.
