KP government removes UET Peshawar VC after teachers’ protest
PESHAWAR, 4 February: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced to remove Vice Chancellor of the University of Engineering Imtiaz Hussain Gilani after protests by the university teachers over extension in his service for three months.
KP Chief Minister announced this decision during a visit to the UET Peshawar on Thursday. The chief minister said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in KP will not commit injustice with anyone. Mr Khattak said a notification about the appointment of a new vice chancellor will be issued soon.
The teachers of the five campuses of UET Peshawar were not attending classes for the last three days against extension granted to Mr Gilani. They ended their strike after the chief minister’s announcement.
Mr Gilani served as VC for the UET Peshawar for the last 12 years. Protests were also held in the past over his extension, but being resourceful he managed to continue his job.
