GHALLANAI, 28 August: Isakhel tribe of Ghallanai, the headquarters of Mohmand Agency, held a jirga with Political Agent Waqar Ali Khan on Thursday to discuss their problems.

Participants of the jirga pinpointed problems faced by the people of Southern Pass near the Pak-Afghan border. They said the picturesque area has fountains, healthy atmosphere and beautiful scenery besides having rich natural resources, but lacks basic facilities of life.

“Women are compelled to carry daily-use items on their heads. The route is very narrow and even a donkey or mule cannot be used to carry luggage there. There are no roads in our area and the existing routes are in extremely dilapidated condition,” a participant of the jirga told TNN.

The political agent told the jirga that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan has approved a special package of Rs300 million for FATA. He said the government will pay attention to development schemes in these backward areas in the Annual Development Programme.
