Govt decides to restore cellular, internet services in Fata
July 09, 2017

PESHAWAR, July 09: The federal government has decided to restore all mobile phone and internet services in the entire Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).
“Mobile phone and internet services will be restored in Khyber, Bajaur and Mohmand agencies in the first phase,” Abdul Salam, Information Director of Fata Secretariat, told TNN adding the internet network and mobile phone services would be extended to the rest of the agencies.
Explaining decision of extending the internet services only to Khyber, Bajaur and Mohmand agencies, he said that peace has been restored in the above mentioned agencies. An NOC has been issued to a private company in this regard, he said.
In the remaining agencies where military operation is still underway, the services will be restored at trial bases, said Adbul Salam.
He further said that the private company would also provide 3G and 4G services. Without internet facilities, mobile services have no importance.
All mobile phone services and internet facilities were suspended due to deteriorating security situation in the tribal areas. “People especially those working in offices, students and those searching for jobs are suffering due to the suspension of internet services,” said Muhammad Jamil, a resident of Kurram Agency. Praising decision of the government, he said that 3G and 4G LET services will resolve the issue.
A journalist from South Waziristan Agency, Rizawan Mehsud, told TNN that due to non-availability of phone services, they were facing inconvenience in sending their news.
The mobile phone network has been suspended in the Mohmand Agency for the last few month drawing stern protest demonstration of the tribesmen. The tribesmen praised the federal government for restoring the mobile phone network.
