November 12, 2016

PESHAWAR, 12 November: At least four people were killed and 14 others injured as Taliban struck inside the Bagram airbase, north of Kabul on Saturday morning.

A statement released by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato) confirmed the explosion and said the injured people were being treated in hospital. The statement however did not reveal the identity of the killed and injured persons.

Media reports said that the blast was carried out at dawn on Saturday inside the heavily fortified Bagram airbase, which is the largest US military base in Afghanistan.

The Afghan Taliban claimed the responsibility of the attack. According to Taliban spokesman Zabeehullah Mujahid, it was a suicide attack and the bomber blew himself up near the dining hall of the base.

Waheed Sidiqqi, spokesman for the governor of Parwan provincial, said the bomber managed to enter the base and detonate his suicide vest in a queue with Afghan laborers.
