PESHAWAR, 27 August: A solid batting performance by Joe Root and captain Eoin Morgan helped England beat Pakistan by four wickets in the second one-day international at Lords on Saturday.

England also take 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

Earlier, Pakistan captain Azhar Ali decided to bat first after winning the toss but it did not prove fruitful as Pakistan lose three quick wickets. Pakistan were all out for 251 in the final over of the inning.

Wicketkeeper Sarfraz and Babar Azam consolidated the inning and 64 runs. Al rounder Imad Wasim also played a crucial role in lifting Pakistan to a decent total but the highlight of the Pakistani inning was a brilliant hundred by Sarfraz. He scored 105 off 130 balls hitting six fours. Imad Wasim scored 63 off 70 balls hitting five fours and one mighty six.

Pakistan got an early breakthrough as Muhammad Amir got the wicket of Jason Roy in the first over of the inning. Alex Hales was the next man who fell prey to Imad Wasim but 112-run stand between Root (89) and Morgan (68) took the match away from Pakistan’s hand. England successfully chased the target in the 48^th over for the loss of six wickets. Root was named man of the match.

Pakistan had rested Hafeez, Umar Gul and Muhammad Nawaz and included Sami Aslam, Hasan Ali and Yasir Shah.

The next match of the series will be played on August 30 at Nottingham.
