Fata Reforms

• Extension of higher, superior courts to FATA to improve women lives, say experts   

  Like common people from FATA, leaders of political parties and experts are also divided on the extension of Supreme Court and High Court to tribal region. To bring their viewpoints on the recent passage of FATA reforms bill by the National Assembly which allows judicial system to FATA, TNN conducted an interview panel with tribal legal expert Latif Afridi Advocate, Ayesha Mohmand of Takra Qabaili Khwendo and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) FATA ameer Mufti Abdul Shakoor

• Bill on extension of judiciary to FATA awaiting approval from Senate  

  After a long wait, the National Assembly finally passed a bill on 12 January 2018 for extending the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and Peshawar High Court (PHC) to FATA. Protests by the FATA people and statements by the opposition leaders played a crucial role in the approval of the bill from the National Assembly.

• Youth, tribal leaders are concerned about transparent implementation of 10 year FATA development program

  A 10-year development programme was proposed in the FATA Reforms Committee report, but unfortunately we put more emphasis on political and administrative reforms.

• Absenteeism of teachers, damaged buildings make 900 schools non-functional in FATA

  In tribal areas of Pakistan, more than 800 schools have been closed or still remained non-functional due to poor law and order situation in the region.   Hundreds of displaced families from North and South Waziristan and Khyber Agency are still living a displaced life. However, the IDPs and repatriated from Fata have claimed that government was, seemingly, least interested to facilitate and provide food to the terrorism-affected tribal people.

• Political parties running campaigns to increase vote bank among repatriated people of FATA

  Political hustle and bustle have been gaining vigor at the in the areas of return in FATA with public gatherings being organized at hujras and local offices of political parties ahead of forthcoming general elections.During 2013 general elections thousands of families from different agencies of Fata were living in camps and with relatives due to military operations.
