TANK, 23 March: The reservations of the people of Mehsud tribe in South Waziristan Agency about the ongoing census have been addressed, the political administration said.

South Waziristan Political Agent Zafarul Islam Khattak said while addressing a grand tribal Jirga at political compound in Tank on Wednesday that he presented the issues of Mehsud tribesmen at a high-level meeting attended by SAFRON and Statistics Department officials. He said the officials agreed to provide special relief to Mehsud tribe in the census.

Mr Khattak said many Mehsud people left the area due to military operation and now they are residing in different parts of the country. He said it is not possible for all the people of Mehsud tribe to return to their homes in Waziristan for census. He said the houses count can be carried out even on damaged walls and buildings of these houses, but the area elders will have to approve it.

Senator Maulana Saleh Shah, Member National Assembly Maulana Jamaluddin and tribal elder Malik Masood Jehangir while addressing the Jirga thanked the government for accepting demands of Mehsud tribe.

“Most people of Mehsud tribe have left the area due to military operation and now they are residing in Tank, Peshawar, Karachi and other areas. Finally, we reached an agreement that the people of Mehsud tribe will be counted as residents of Waziristan wherever they are living now,” the political agent told TNN.
